The Spring Meeting began with a welcome and opening comment by Chairman of the Board Gary Sypolt and then continued with a very interesting briefing by David Manning, Executive Vice President, U.S. External Affairs for National Grid. Prior to the official start of the meeting, we held a briefing on the Foundation’s mission and processes for new members (and not-so-new members who wanted a refresher on how the Foundation works).
The General Session focused on the natural gas pipeline and storage projects proposed over the next few years and continued with a briefing on the Foundation study of the outlook for North American pipeline and storage infrastructure projects through 2030. At the stat of the afternoon session Aubrey McClendon CEO of Chesapeake Energy gave a spirited talk entitled 2010 to 2050- The Age of Natural Gas. The first day concluded with the Planning and Studies Committee Meeting and implementation of the first steps in the 2009 study development program.
The Board of Directors of the Foundation met on Friday morning, April 17 to be briefed on audit, budget, study and membership issues. The General Session that followed included a keynote address by Don Santa, President of INGAA on energy, policy, and legislative changes going on in Washington at the start of the Obama administration. Then, the members heard a briefing by Greg Rizzo, President of Spectra Energy Partners on the Foundation’s new Guiding Principles which apply to the membership and new members entering the Foundation. Next, a panel briefed the attendees on the results of four workshops and studies the Foundation has preformed and recently released.
