description for pipelineInUrArea-banner-whide

The National Public Mapping System (NPMS) allows you to see major gas transmission pipelines and hazardous liquids trunk lines county by county. Please note that smaller gathering and distribution lines, such as those that deliver gas to your home, aren’t shown.

NPMS data is for reference purposes only. It should never be used as a substitute for contacting a one-call center prior to excavation activities.

Always call 811 before you dig.

To find out if a transmission pipeline is on or near your propertydescription for content2, you can:

  • Check the NPMS Public Map Viewer at www.npms.phmsa.dot.gov;
  • Look for pipeline markers -- these are signs, located at regular intervals, that include information about the transmission pipeline operator;
  • Read any mailings you receive from pipeline companies -- if you get them, that means there’s a pipeline in your area.

    The National Pipeline Mapping System allows you to find out if there is a natural gas or hazardous liquids transmission pipeline in your community. The map system does not contain gathering or distribution pipelines, such as lines which deliver gas to a customer's home. Therefore, not all pipelines in an area will be visible in the public map viewer. The mapping service should never be used as a substitute for contacting a one-call center prior to excavation activities. Please call 811 before any digging occurs.
